SHREVEPORT, La. – Tariffs could affect your plans for home construction or renovations due to increased prices.
Many items like flooring and cabinets used in home construction can be imported, meaning they might be impacted by the tariffs, which could increase costs.
“Yeah, I think a lot of the home products will be affected by this, whether it’s, you know, sinks for plumbing or cabinets. A lot of those were made outside of the United States. The general price would most likely rise,” said United Tile Operations Manager John Michael Assad.

Local businesses like United Tile cater to home projects like flooring and countertops. Assad said they have experience with tariffs impacting the business in the past.
“Five or so years ago, when there were tariffs implemented, we saw continued growth in our business at the time, with different products being favored or unfavorable due to the tariffs,” said Assad.
Assad said that a 30% increase in tariffs doesn’t mean the price of a product will increase 30%. He also said that although a lot of products are imported, United Tile also has many American-made items.
“The products that we use that are imported may represent more than half of the products we install on any given day, month, or week. So we will see a shift just like we did last time towards those domestic products, and we’ll see an increase in price across the board on the average ticket that our customers receive because we will be using more expensive products on average with the tariffs implemented,” said Assad.
United Tile hasn’t felt the impact of the current tariffs yet, but it could in the next few weeks or months.
