Tycon Builders’ owner Paul Yost
With the turning of several shovels, groundbreaking on a new home construction project has begun. And not just any project: this new home will be the first of the resurrected Home Building Program for Construction Trades at Alton High School.

Alton High School Home Building groundbreaking
During the 2025-26 school year, Alton High School students will build homes from start to finish – a step up from building structures like greenhouses, ticket booths, and others in their workshops and behind the school. Kristie Baumgartner is Executive Director of the Alton Educational Foundation and tells The Big Z much of the momentum to restart this program can be given to Paul Yost, owner and president of Tycon Builders in Alton.

There are already a number of students enrolled in this curriculum to begin in the fall, but there are still a few spots open.
